From Lisa Dale Jones, Public Speaking Coach:

I’ve always been fascinated with and involved in aspects of presenting soul-related material to an audience – in recent years it’s been speech coaching and public radio announcing, but it started with ballet lessons at age five, progressed to singing in the high school choir, private voice lessons, singing as a soloist in church, and eventually participation in vocal and speaking master classes, working with expert teachers, coaches and storytellers around the world.

I keep digging for the answers to questions like these:

What engages an audience?

What moves them to a new place?

What interferes with communication?

How can the speaker's presentation style support the material presented and make it real?

My work with clients helps answer these questions in ways that are useful for them. I don’t impose a certain way that speaking “should” be done – I work with each client to bring out his or her unique best way of effectively communicating with an audience and getting them to take an action.

I’ve done this successfully over the years with executives giving important speeches at annual meetings, with newspaper reporters switching to public radio, with student groups, and with professional spirituality speakers from nearly every continent on earth. I’ve conducted speech and media training meetings for these speakers in Johannesburg, Vienna, Heidelberg, London, Washington DC, and Boston.

My background informs the way I coach. As a vocalist, I use analogies from music and singing. As a reader, I look for the depth and draw of good storytelling. As a journalist, I push for clarity and accuracy. As a spiritual thinker, I encourage clients to listen for ways to inspire and enlighten their listeners.

My professional background:

Before starting Speaking with Soul, I was Assistant Manager in charge of training, and Editor, for the Board of Lectureship, a Boston-based international speakers bureau comprising over 50 professional spiritual healers and speakers from all over the world giving over 1,800 talks per year. For nearly ten years I was a successful producer and on-air talent for Monitor Radio, the broadcast edition of The Christian Science Monitor, winning the prestigious Gabriel Award for feature reporting with the “ability to uplift and nourish the human spirit.”

I’m currently a member of the Association for Spirit at Work, the Grass Roots Center Spirituality Salon, and The First Church of Christ, Scientist.

When I’m not working I like to garden, read, write fiction, listen to opera, try out gourmet recipes and play with our two Maine Coon cats. My husband Gary and I root for the home teams: the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.
